Hello, dear Odooers, and welcome to this Odoo Point of Sale tutorial. My name is Marcelo, and I will help you through the process.
Opening a store is a huge step for any business owner, as you probably already know. To be as efficient as possible, we need a great Point of Sale (POS) system that will support all your needs, whether you run a store, restaurant, or bar. The POS system will help you regardless of your business type.
To achieve this, we will need a complete setup of devices connected to a strong application, such as Odoo. Among these devices, we need a computer or a tablet to run our database and a screen to display it properly. Depending on your needs, you can add more devices, such as a printer (or several printers), a payment terminal, a barcode scanner, a cash register, or even a scale.
Without further ado, let me introduce you to our new shop, “The Pet Crown,” where your pet is crowned. I will guide you through a quick overview of Odoo’s Point of Sale solution through a complete sale.
To start your POS session, you simply click on “New Session” on your backend. By default, Odoo will tell you the amount you finished your previous session with, showing the money in your cash register. In this case, it’s $150.75. When you click “Open Session,” you will see an amazing view displaying all your products and everything you need for your POS, and you’re ready to start receiving customers.
Speaking of which, our first client has just arrived. “Hi, good morning!”
Our client picked up three items in our store, and they can be added to the order in different ways. The first item has a barcode, which we can simply scan, and it will appear in this part of our POS. The second item needs to be weighed. We can find it using the search bar by typing the product’s name and selecting it, and it will connect directly to our scale. Once we add the product, the weight is automatically added, and you can click “Order,” which will appear on the next line of the order. The third item is a unit product, like small toys. You can find it by going through our product categories. In this case, it’s in the “Dog” section. After selecting it, only one unit will appear, but you can change the quantity using the numpad here—I added two.
This is basically how we add all the products to our order.
“Are you a customer already?”
“No, not yet; it’s my first time.”
“Can I quickly register you?”
“Of course, my name is Loredana.”
You simply click on “Customer” and have the option to create a new one. Click here, and depending on the information you need to add, you can type it in and save it. By doing this, it will automatically select the customer.
As you can see, everything is ready to be paid. You simply click on the “Payment” button. The total is $7.42. “How would you like to pay?”
“I’d like to pay by card.”
So, you click on “Bank,” which in this case is set up for card payments. “It will be $7.42.”
“I’m sorry, I just have cash.”
She forgot her card, but it’s no problem. We can simply remove the card payment by clicking on the “X” and select “Cash.”
“It will be $7.42.”
“I have $20.”
She gave me $20, and I don’t even need to bother making the calculations because I can simply enter the amount of cash she gave me, and Odoo will calculate the change I need to give back to her. Once I click “Validate,” the cash register will open, and the receipt will be printed. We can simply give her the change.
“There you go. Thank you, and here is your receipt.”
